Is Your AC Not Cooling? Check These Things First
An AC that runs but does not cool is usually caused by a dirty filter, wrong settings, a tripped outdoor unit, a blocked drain line or low refrigerant. You can check the first three in five minutes. Ice on the pipe, water dripping indoors or a loud outdoor unit need a technician.
Five-minute checks:
- Make sure the unit is on Cool mode, set to 24°C or lower, with the fan on Auto
- Take out the filter and wash it. A clogged filter is the most common cause of weak airflow
- Check your DB board for a tripped breaker on the AC circuit, and reset it once only
- If the pipe or coil is iced up, switch to Fan mode for an hour to melt it, then call us

AC Gas Refill: Why a Top-Up Alone Rarely Fixes the Problem
AC refrigerant runs in a sealed circuit and is not used up. If it is low, there is a leak. Topping up without finding the leak means the problem returns, often within weeks. The right fix is to find and repair the leak, then recharge once.
Ask any company that offers a gas refill:
- Will you test for a leak before adding gas?
- What refrigerant does my unit use? It is printed on the outdoor unit label.
- Will you tell me the price per kilogram before you start?
Older units that use R22 refrigerant are affected by the global phase-out under the Montreal Protocol, so the gas is getting harder to source and more expensive. If your unit is old and uses R22, compare the cost of repair against replacement.
Repair or Replace Your AC? How to Decide
Repair a unit when it has one clear fault and is still in good condition. Replace it when it is old, keeps failing or a major part like the compressor has gone. A common rule of thumb is to replace when the repair costs about half the price of a new unit.

Service your AC at least every six months in Dubai. Units that run all day or sit in dusty areas need servicing every three to four months. Book your main service in March or April, before the summer load starts, so the unit is ready when you need it most.

Desert dust, construction dust and sandstorms clog filters and coils faster in Dubai than in cooler climates. In summer, wash your filters every two to four weeks. These intervals are typical guidance, not a rule.
